The setup and review of the Vtech VG-101 DECT 6.0 Cordless Phone with Handset Speakerphone. At the time of this taping, the phone retails for 18 dollars and change. At this price point, it's an excellent phone and leaves little to be desired. It performs better and feels sturdier than many other models I've used that cost significantly more. This unit is very comparable to the predecessor model, the Vtech CS-6114, but with the addition of the speakerphone feature. It covers all the basics quite well: -Loud ringer volume -Good volume range and clarity on calls, both incoming and outgoing audio -Exceptional pickup on speakerphone -Sturdy feel to handset, no creaky plastic -Large backlit buttons, font is easy to read -Reasonable range, ~100' indoors, ~300-500' outdoors depending on conditions. More objects between the base and handset will reduce range significantly. The 1,000' claim made by the manufacturer is a line-of-sight condition and not achievable in most real-world applications. -Battery life per charge ~5 hours on a call, ~a week standby, battery charge will vary depending on how the phone is used, ex. a call on speakerphone at full volume will yield less talk time than at the lowest volume setting -Battery is cheap and easy to replace, should last for several years -CallerID log will match display names to those stored in the phonebook -Base unit is natively wall mountable -Backlight turns on when handset is removed from base It lacks in the following areas: -Screen font is small and contrast could be better -Phone book limited to 30 entries -CallerID log limited to 20 entries -No headset jack or belt clip Overall highly recommended, you will not find a better deal for a simple, no-frills cordless telephone. The feature set is limited, but it has everything you need to reliably make and receive calls without being tethered to the wall. It talks well and is easy to use.
