TRIP REPORT | Huge safety lapse on VIA Rail! Train 22 (LRC) from Montreal to Quebec City

VIA Rail’s Corridor Service is a route that many Canadians living in Ontario and Quebec should know about. There are several trains a day between Montreal and Quebec City, so me and my wife decided to go with VIA Rail on our trip. We were seated at an emergency exit row and... ...things did not go as smoothly as I'd hope. My main bugbear? VIA staff did not give us an emergency exit safety briefing given in spite of this being a requirement in a Canadian rail regulation. While we may all think trains may be "safer" than planes and no briefing not seem to be a big issue, that lapse took me aback because that's what the company is supposed to do. And yet, they didn't even attempt to rectify it or check with us. The other thing that didn't go smoothly? Our train was delayed by 45 minutes. And while that isn't VIA's fault (due to speed restrictions on CN), it was not communicated properly. It's sad to see that such important procedures cannot be carried out properly by VIA, especially for the safety briefing where we were theoretically partly responsible for our fellow passengers' safety. I felt that I have no choice but to mention this in my review. I'll also reach out to VIA Rail them to hear their side of the story.
