The prosecution just spent 40 minutes painting Kouri Richins as a cold, calculating killer. Now the defense takes every single fact the jury just heard and flips it. Attorney Skye Nester opens with the 911 call, forcing the jury to hear Kouri's raw grief before anything else. Then she rebuilds the night of March 3, 2022, not as a murder plot, but as a family celebration. The Midway Mansion deal was about to close. Eric had been at the property that day. They toasted with Moscow mules and tucked their boys into bed. What happened in the six hours between 9 PM and 3 AM is the question the defense says nobody can answer. Watch what the defense does with the investigation itself. The cups that sat in the sink untested. The crime scene that was never secured. The key witness who changed her story. And the medical examiner who still has not determined the manner of Eric's death. The defense gives the jury a framework for reasonable doubt, and it starts with an optical illusion. ⏰ KEY MOMENTS 00:27 - Defense opening begins with the 911 call 03:08 - "Those were the sounds of a wife becoming a widow" 06:37 - The family the defense says Kouri would never destroy 10:19 - The last person who spoke to Eric alive 15:41 - What the death certificate still says to this day 17:11 - The evidence that sat in the sink untested 28:13 - Eric's pain, his drug use, and where he had just traveled 36:44 - The image the defense wants burned into the jury's memory CASE BACKGROUND REPORT: https://justiceisaprocess.com/ut-v-ri... 📖 CASE BACKGROUND On March 4, 2022, Kouri Richins called 911 from her Francis, Utah home at 3 a.m. Her husband Eric was unresponsive. Toxicology revealed five times the lethal dose of fentanyl. Eric had no history of drug use. Prosecutors allege Kouri had been taking money from Eric for years. They say she owed lenders more than $1.8 million and had opened nearly $2 million in life insurance on Eric without him knowing. Eric discovered the financial issues in 2020. He changed his will, created a trust naming his sister as trustee, and removed Kouri as beneficiary. One year after Eric's death, Kouri published a children's book about a father watching over his son from heaven. Four weeks later, she was arrested. The defense maintains her innocence. 📂 PLAYLISTS & RESOURCES 🌐 Website: https://justiceisaprocess.com ► Full Trial Live Broadcasts: • LIVE BROADCAST: UT v. Askin, a criminal defense attorney who was disbarred in 1998 for refusing to violate attorney-client privilege, then criminally convicted in 2010 for teaching people their constitutional rights from a coffee shop in Martinsburg, West Virginia. He passed away in February 2024, but not before he and I started this channel together. I am Steven M. Askin II. I am not an attorney. I am a watchdog. I cover criminal trials to educate the public about due process, the presumption of innocence, and constitutional protections. Every video on this channel is part of building the machine the system feared my father would create: a public trained to watch, question, and demand accountability. This is not entertainment. This is education. This is oversight. This is Justice Is A Process. ⚖️ FAIR USE & EDUCATIONAL PURPOSE This content is produced under Fair Use (17 U.S.C. § 107) for news reporting, criticism, and educational purposes.
