Hanuman's capture and punishment: After finding Sita in Ravana's Ashok Vatika, Hanuman was captured by the Rakshasas (demons) and brought before Ravana. To punish him, Ravana's soldiers wrapped Hanuman's tail in cloth, dipped it in oil, and set it on fire. Escape and destruction: Hanuman, with his divine power, grew in size and broke free from his bonds, his tail still aflame. He then leaped across Lanka, using his burning tail to torch the mansions of key Rakshasas and Ravana's palace, causing widespread destruction. Significance: The burning was both a display of Hanuman's immense strength and a purposeful act to terrorize Ravana's kingdom and signal the coming defeat of the demon king. It is also seen as a way to warn Ravana and force him to release Sita. Aftermath: Hanuman eventually extinguished the fire in the ocean and was praised for his actions. The incident also demonstrated the power of devotion to Rama and the force of Adharma (unrighteousness) that the Rakshasas represented.
