The palace holds a significant place in India’s freedom struggle. During the Quit India Movement (1942), Mahatma Gandhi, Kasturba Gandhi, Mahadev Desai, and Sarojini Naidu were kept under house arrest here. Kasturba Gandhi (Gandhiji’s wife) and Mahadev Desai passed away in the palace, making it a site of national importance. 🔹 Architecture Spread across 19 acres, the palace has beautiful Italian arches, spacious lawns, and long corridors. It represents a blend of Islamic and European styles. 🔹 Current Role Today, it houses the Gandhi National Memorial with photographs, personal items of Gandhiji, and historical documents. The palace is managed by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). 🔹 Visiting Info Location: Nagar Road, Pune. Timings: 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM (daily).
