Welcome to Cranbrook, British Columbia! This small city in the Kootenay region is surrounded by breathtaking mountain scenery, rich history, and plenty of outdoor adventure. In this Cranbrook travel guide, we explore some of the best things to do in and around town, from scenic parks and heritage sites to local breweries and unique experiences. Our journey began at the Kootenay Trout Hatchery, where we learned about the trout's life cycle and fed them, too. From there, we headed to Elizabeth Park, a peaceful spot with walking trails and abundant birdlife, where we saw loads of birds and deer! We also explored Cranbrook Community Forest, where we followed the forested trails to Sylvan Lake. To dive into Cranbrook’s past, we visited the Cranbrook History Centre, home to beautifully restored train carriages and fascinating exhibits that bring the region’s railway history to life. We joined their toddler tour, which is an abbreviated 20-minute guided tour that gives you access to the train carriages! We also enjoyed some great meals in Cranbrook! We had a wonderful lunch at Fire Hall Kitchen and Tap, a fire station turned restaurant, where we had burgers and craft beer. For dinner, we ate at Family Thai Restaurant, where we got pad thai and green curry. Then, we switched gears for some fun at Encore Brewing, where we grabbed a pizza and went bowling. As for day trips, we visited Fort Steele, a heritage town that transports visitors back to the gold rush era with historical buildings, costumed interpreters, and live demonstrations. Lastly, we ended our visit with a stay at St Eugene, a historic mission building turned resort.
