In anticipation of the celebrations of World AIDS Day celebrated every 1 December, our reporter IVAN JJUUKO gathers a special story about the Kasensero landing site situated in the present-day Kyotera district; where the first confirmed cases of HIV were reported, also dubbed the "birthplace of HIV" in the 1980s. It’s believed that the Victims who were traders operating in the Kabanyaga market in Tanzania along the shores of Lake Victoria contracted the virus, crossed and settled at Kasensero landing site in Southern Uganda then spread it to various parts of the country. After a period of 4 decades or so, we have learned that a lot has to be done in the stride to fight the AIDS epidemic as men don’t want to use condoms while women care less whether men use protective gear or not and they only mind about getting money for survival.
