In the UK, our wet weather is great for watering our plants, but the high humidity can encourage the growth of some damaging fungal diseases. One of these diseases can be found killing rose flowers. Botrytis cinerea is a widespread fungus often found on rotting fruit and vegetables. On rotten plant material it is generally known as ‘Grey Mould’. When the same fungus, Botrytis cinerea, occurs on rose plants it causes a disease called ‘Botrytis Bud and Twig Blight’, or simply ‘Botrytis Blight’. This devastating fungal disease of roses results in dead, mouldy, discoloured, soggy, brown-grey rose flowers and brown stems. It often starts on old flowers, but can spread to kill new buds and open flowers. This video shows you how to identify Botrytis blight of roses, and shows you the fungus causing the disease. I then outline four simple, natural, and practical steps you can take to cure, treat, and get rid of botrytis blight and stop it from killing your rose flowers. And I’ve even included one valuable extra bonus step to keep your beautiful roses healthy!
