Solar Ash Story in a Nutshell

Solar Ash is a really cool game, but the story is too long is srs, so here's a shortened version of it. Spoiler free review: This made by the same people who did Hyper Light Drifter and it shows. Amazing music, gorgeous visuals, but now in 3D. And the game really makes use of the 3D space. The scale of the environments and enormous and it super satisfying to traverse. However, the studio tried something new, they have voice acting now. And it has mixed results. I always hate protagonists talking to themselves all the time. Reacting to every little thing you do, or overexplaining things, or giving unsolicited hints. That said, after getting over that, I really enjoyed the story. I just wish there was more time to get know the cast of characters. An intro cutscene with them would have at least been something to get me invested in them. The gameplay is a lot of fun, combat is simple, it's more about the platforming off giant buildings and monsters. Feels very fluid, feels great to master. I haven't tried the hardcore difficulty but apparently it starts to really test your speed in that mode, which sounds great. Overall, I'd still recommend it, but definitely would recommend Hyper Light Drifter first if this game looks intriguing.
