During the ancient War of the Magi, the nation known as Huang collapsed under the pressure of famine and violence. From its ashes, however, rose the great country of Wutai, also known as Japan. For centuries, Japan developed independently from the rest of the world, opting for an isolationist policy in order to keep away from the haunting visions of warfare. However, the war Japan is facing comes from within. And it is not the first time the nation has brought forth its own recipe for bloodshed. More than 250 years ago, the Tokugawa shogunate ended the civil wars fought at that time, establishing a military government and keeping the country orderly and peaceful. Now, political intervention from outside nations has brought chaos to the land. Many noble families seek to take advantage of the situation, but none of them are as dangerous as the Ode clan. Ode Iou, the head of this family, seeks to destroy the shogunate and to rule Japan by himself. A mysterious power has allied with him, providing Iou with a wellspring of magical power unseen anywhere else during this period. Only the Enma clan can stop him!
