Strap-on-dildos: sex toy or legitimate medical treatment? Researchers evaluate whether patients would be willing to use a strap-on-dildo as a medical treatment for their erectile dysfunction. What was once an item sold in adult stores and used to spice up activities in the bedroom, has now been scouted as a potential medical treatment for erectile dysfunction (ED). Strap-on-dildos, or more scientifically known as an external-penile-prosthesis, has been confirmed by past papers to be an effective remedy for ED, providing many advantages over the conventional treatment of Viagra. Unlike its drug counterpart, dildos are cheap, accessible, 100% effective and have no side effects. So, why haven’t dildos been used in practice yet? Well, because it’s a sex toy! It is common for patients and clinicians to have strong stigma against dildos as a treatment, due to its original (and continuing) role as a sex toy. To assess the current climate of dildo use in the medical field, a recent researcher has surveyed patients with erectile dysfunction on whether they would be willing to use strap-on-dildos as a treatment. Supporting information, such as when and who should introduce the treatment was also assessed by the survey. This data will ideally provide the foundation for future clinical guidelines on how to approach introducing strap-on-dildo for clinicians.
