Professor Stathis Kalyvas (Oxford) gives an overview of past research on violence in civil war as part of 'Writing the History of Civil War', a UCD Centre for War Studies seminar which gathered some of the leading scholars of civil wars together to discuss their unique approaches to the subject. Taking part in the seminar were: Dr. Anne Dolan, Associate Professor in Modern Irish History at Trinity College Dublin; Stathis Kalyvas, Gladstone Professor of Government at the University of Oxford; and Glenda Gilmore, Peter V & C Vann Woodward Professor of History at Yale University and current holder of The Mary Ball Washington Professorship of American History at UCD. The seminar, which took place in UCD School of History on 12th of October 2018, was chaired by Professor Robert Gerwarth, Head of UCD School of History and Director of UCD Centre for War Studies.
