My cardiac surgeon said I should not have survived this episode and highly recommended to switch over to a plant-based diet if I wanted to live a long, healthy life. My better half, Brittany, embraced and transitioned us to a vegan diet out of love and I couldn’t have done this without her. After everything we have been through, I couldn’t think of a better way to ask her to marry me than body painted in Times Square. The week leading up to the big day brought about several unwelcome surprises, the biggest was a polar vortex. Our flight was delayed 5 times before it successfully made it out of Buffalo and it was luckily the only flight that made it to NYC that day! On the day of the proposal, it was a balmy 15 degrees Fahrenheit with wind chill temperatures in the single digits. This proposal photoshoot emphasizes the benefits of a plant-based diet and cardiovascular disease awareness. The incredible artist, Trina Merry, painted “Will You Marry Me?” on my back. Brittany was asked to turn around and when she saw the message, I immediately dropped to a knee and properly proposed. With dozens of spectators accumulating among all of the commotion and emotions, through joyful tears she put on the ring and said YES!
