https://www.delfi.ee/artikkel/1202985... On 5th June 2024 at 12.36, the emergency center received a report that an explosion had occurred on Nõlva Street in North Tallinn. The first rescuers to arrive saw that the roof of a tank, where heavy fuel oil or marine fuel was stored, had exploded. Smoke and flames were visible from the roof of the tank. The Rescue Board responded according to the highest level of response. The quick response of the rescuers prevented major damage and the incident was eliminated by 15.26. The first rescuers were there in six minutes. Water supply was formed on site from the sea and foam was also used to extinguish the fire. A forklift was used in the extinguishing work to access the roof of the tank from above. In total, more than 20 pieces of equipment and teams from seven professional and five volunteer rescue teams participated in the incident. One company worker who was on the roof of the tank during the explosion was injured during the incident. The fire most likely started from firework on the roof of the tank, which ignited fuel vapors in the tank. Fortunately, the tank was not full at the time, but it still contained about 10 tons of heavy fuel oil, or marine fuel. The rescuers were able to prevent major damage to the tank by responding quickly. Details of the exact cause will be revealed during further proceedings. Traffic was closed on Nõlva Street during the rescue work, and an EE-ALARM message was sent to local residents, asking them to close their windows and stay indoors.
