1/24 scale Airfix Supermarine Spitfire Mk. IX built model kits. Variable speed motorized propellers. L.e.d. cockpit illumination. Scratch built seated pilot figures and engine stands. Resin exhaust. 1 Man Army masks for paint on markings. Kit parts modified, corrected, refined with added details for improved accuracy. Rivet detail filled and levelled on the leading, D box section of the wings, the rest of the rivets filled to scale depth. Mark III IFF antenna chosen for both airframes. Johnnie E Johnson and Pilot Officer, George F Beurling. Johnson has claimed they flew on the same missions once or twice in their squadrons but he never had Beurling for a wingman. Depicted as how the aircraft may have appeared in early September, 1943 when Beurling returned to RCAF, 403 Squadron out on a, 'Rhubarb' operation or a familiarization flight the Wing Leader might wish to have with a unique pilot like George Beurling. MA585 was built in June and EN398 in February, 1943 with Johnson flying the plane in April after it received a fresh coat of paint making him believe it was a new Spitfire.
