Join me as I sit down with Dimitrius Glenn, a Physical Training Instructor at the Dallas College Police Academy (Eastfield Campus), for an insightful conversation about policing from a unique perspective. In this first installment of our three-part series, we explore the evolution of law enforcement perceptions and the foundational qualities that create effective officers. Dimitrius brings a distinctive viewpoint to this discussion. As an African American man who grew up in Galveston, Houston, and Dallas, he shares his personal journey from childhood observations of police to his current role training the next generation of officers. His 13 years running Know Yourself Fitness & Mentoring Group, combined with his work at the Dallas County Juvenile Department, gives him rare insight into both sides of the law enforcement equation. In this episode, Dimitrius reflects on how his perceptions of police officers have transformed over the years, shaped by personal experiences, community observations, and his eventual transition into law enforcement training. He then draws on his daily work with police cadets to identify the most critical qualities future officers must develop to earn respect and serve effectively. This conversation is part of our ongoing mission at Blue on Blue to foster meaningful dialogue about law enforcement. Whether you’re a current officer, aspiring cadet, community member, or simply interested in policing perspectives, this discussion offers valuable insights into building better relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve. Subscribe to Blue on Blue and join the conversation as we work together to shape the future of law enforcement.
