The reason why i feel a lot of new mycologist quit is because for first timers we decide to buy premade jars and which can bump the cost up quite a bit. I know video is shitty but id thought id get it up so you can know the gist of making your pwn jars. So here i will explain. You will need 1. Mixing bowl 2.fork and spoon 3.vermiculite (lowes) 4.brown rice flour (i got mine at whole foods) 5.water 6. Ball or Kerr jars wide mouth 7.the larger paper like envelopes from usps theyre made from tyvek and good in preventing moisture getting into the jars and messing up the moisture content. So take your mixing bowl and add 2 cups of vermiculite. Add 1 cup or water and mix evenly till all vermiculite is evenly wet. Mix your 1 cup of brown rice flour and mix again. Make holes in ypur jars by using a 1/8 drill bit. Just big enough to fit your spore needle through. So now we have our mixture and jars ready cut as many square pieces of the envelope big enough to go over the mouth of the jar. Take your spoon and start packing jars. Fill half ways and tap it on a table or something to get all the air pockets out keep tapping and filling till jar os full to the top of the mixture take a napking with alcohol on ir and just wipe the edges of the jars. Lightly pack the top layer only. Put the envelope o er the mouths of the jars and the your lid and screw it on. Your holes should be above the filter so u can see where to stick your needles. Put the jars inside the pressure cooker they come with racks you can use to prop jars over the water you DONT want the jars in the water. Make sure its 15PSI. if not it wont work right. 15psi for 60min. Get tin foil and the same as the filter youre gonna put foil over your lids and put them in the pressure cooker. Start the timer only after the weight has startes to do its dance. Qhen it gets to be a steady rattle turn it down to qhere it rattles and stops rattles and stops. You dont want it to stop rattleing you also dont want too much rattleing. Im sorry if its confusing i promise i will make an updated video with all these steps explained.
