In this video, I have included three separate trains that I caught on three separate occasions, as each did not have enough footage to really make its own video, as well as the fact that they were all unified by a similar quality: unique and rare catches on the Reading and Northern Railroad. Listed below is a description of each train; I hope you enjoy them! Train 1: Yard Job of North Reading (YJNR); while this job in itself is not rare, the task that I caught them doing is. Part of YJNR's duties is to travel on the former Blue Mountain Reading Line, which is also ex-PRR, into Leesport where it interchanges tank cars with a customer. Today this line sees very little traffic other than this one job, so catching the yard job as they complete this rare is difficult and rare. However, I did happen to come across them on the afternoon of April 10th, 2023, and was able to catch them on their return to Reading Outer Station as they passed the old Temple station. Train 2: LNRX; This train travels along the other line that goes through Tamaqua, most notably known for crossing Rt. 309 in Tamaqua, which is one of the shots in this video. The job travels out to the nearby Lehigh Anthracite mine with empty coal hoppers that are then loaded and brought back into the Tamaqua Yard, where they are typically shuttled down to Reading for interchange with Norfolk Southern on the Tamaqua to North Reading (QANR). Due to the limited ability for locomotives to "run around" to the other end of the train both in Tamaqua and at the mine, this job typically utilizes locomotives on one end to shove or pull the cars, with the conductor riding in a caboose on the rear of the train to spot any shove movements. On this afternoon of April 4th, 2023, I caught LNRX returning to Tamaqua with 40 coal loads. Train 3: North Reading Extra (NREX); An NREX can really be any type of train, as it is an extra train that leaves North Reading besides the regularly scheduled freight and passenger. On this specific afternoon of April 17th, 2023, the North Reading Fast Freight (NRFF) was canceled, leading the crew of this train to complete "other duties as assigned", in this case taking a cut of empty coal hoppers to the New Saint Nick coal mine in Minersville. I was not able to chase the full length of this job, however, I did capture the move at three different locations. 0:00 Intro 0:46 YJNR w/tanker car from Leesport Industry on ex-BM&R and ex-PRR line by old Temple station 2:31 LNRX Shoving Into Tamaqua w/40 Coal Loads 9:36 LNRX Traveling South thru Tamaqua to Tamaqua Yard to be tied down 12:48 NREX w/Coal Empties for Minersville thru Leesport 15:14 NREX thru Industrial Dr. (Muller Interlocking) 18:42 NREX thru Port Clinton 23:16 Outro Music in this video: Song: Straight Fuse Artist: French Fuse Licensed to YouTube by: YouTube Audio Library
