CJI Gavai said on Wednesday that it would not be appropriate for him to consider Justice Verma's petition challenging the findings of the internal committee. The matter was presented today before a bench of CJI BR Gavai, Justice K Vinod Chandran and Justice Joymalya Bagchi. However, the apex court said that it would constitute a bench to hear Justice Verma's petition. An army of lawyers stood on behalf of Justice Verma Senior lawyers like Kapil Sibal, Mukul Rohatgi, Rakesh Dwivedi, Siddharth Luthra and Siddharth Agarwal were pleading on behalf of Justice Verma in the Supreme Court. They told the court that the panel drew adverse conclusions without giving them an opportunity for a fair hearing. Along with this, the panel was accused of working with prejudice and accusing them without sufficient evidence. The outer part of the official residence of the then judge of Delhi High Court, Yashwant Verma, caught fire on Holi. In such a situation, the fire department personnel who came to extinguish the fire found half-burnt cash worth crores of rupees there. This incident took place on 14 March 2025 and after this sensation spread across the country. After this matter came to light, the then Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna constituted an in-house inquiry committee, which included three senior judges. The inquiry committee made serious comments in its report and sent a recommendation of impeachment against Justice Verma to the President and the Prime Minister. Justice Verma has challenged this investigation process by filing a petition in the Supreme Court. Justice Verma alleges that he did not get a full opportunity to present his point of view and the investigation moved towards a predetermined conclusion. He alleged that action was taken against him without concrete evidence and there was a lack of impartiality in the investigation. Chief Justice B.R.
