Also known in English as "Prince David's Wreath of Roses", "Lei Loke O Kawika" was written by Peter Kalani, who became leader of the Royal Hawaiian Band to succeed Capt. Henri Berger in 1915 He beat the measure in February with his official baton for the first time, at a morning concert given in Queen Liliuokalani’s grounds. The Queen thanked him for the attention and, in a little speech of good will, wished that he might make the Royal Hawaiian Band a permanent power in the world of music. After playing in bands as a teenager he studied harmony and counterpoint and composed of several Hawaiian songs and a great many pieces for band and orchestra, among them being “Hula Hula Girl,” “Hapa Haole,” “Mayor Lane March,” and “1915 Congressional Party March.” A great many old Hawaiian songs have been arranged and set in medleys by him. I found some of his work in "The King's Collection " 80 Hawaiian song published by Chas. King in 1917. The piano parts are excellent and over time I will arrange many of them for solo ukulele. The full solo of this one is already available from colinrtribe@btinternet.com
