Is The US Shutting Down Its Weather Satellites?

The government recently announced that NOAA-15, 18, and 19 satellites will no longer be used after June of 2025. The satellites themselves will stay on and keep transmitting, so fortunately they should still be available for folks with radio receivers to get data. However, these will no longer be part of regular weather forecasting, having been replaced by NOAA-20, 21 and the JPSS system. The newer satellites only use X-band radio to send down their data, so unfortunately they're not as useful for amateurs and SDR enthusiasts.
