A fines de 2022, en un trabajo conjunto con La Pampa, Santa Cruz y el Ministerio de Ambiente y Desarrollo Sostenible de la Nación, comenzamos a translocar los primeros guanacos entre estas dos provincias para recuperar a la especie en el Parque Luro (La Pampa), donde se había extinguido. Durante el proceso, nuestros equipos fueron ajustando las técnicas de arreo, encierre y transporte, lo que nos permitió, este año, mover más animales. En el posteo de hoy te contamos el trabajo que subyace a la primera de estas etapas: el ARREO. Durante la etapa de arreo es importante que los grupos sociales que serán translocados no se separen y que los animales no generen altos niveles de estrés. De esa forma, el largo viaje transcurrirá con tranquilidad y los guanacos llegarán a su destino en buenas condiciones. El desarrollo correcto de estas técnicas permite darle escala a las translocaciones de guanacos y continuar con la recuperación del gran herbívoro sudamericano en regiones donde ha desaparecido. - GUANACO, THE RETURN OF THE GREAT SOUTH AMERICAN HERBIVORE: THE HERDING At the end of 2022, in a joint effort with La Pampa, Santa Cruz, and the Ministry of Environment of Argentina, we began to translocating the first guanacos between these two provinces to reintroduce the species in Parque Luro (La Pampa), where it had become extinct. During the process, our teams were adjusting the techniques of herding, confining, and transporting, which allowed us to transport more animals this year. In today's post, we will tell you more about the work behind the first of these stages: el ARREO (the herding). During the herding stage, it is crucial that the social groups that will be translocated do not separate and that the animals are not under high levels of stress.This way, the long journey will pass smoothly and the guanacos will reach their destination in good condition. The correct development of these techniques will allow guanaco translocations to scale and continue with the recovery of the great South American herbivore in regions where it has disappeared.
