Bennet Omalu, MD, accepts the award for 2015 WebMD Health Hero, Scientist at this year’s awards gala November 5, 2015, at the Times Center in New York City. Omalu’s research uncovered chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a disorder caused by repeated brain injuries, and he linked it to the physical trauma that certain former NFL players endured. His work has transformed the way we look at -- and play -- football. Still, he remains humble. "I don't want to be glorified. I don't want to be placed on any pedestal. I'm just a simple man who wanted to make other people happy."
