With an obi that hyped the album as "Fashionable sounds sung by Usami Keiko with Manhattan as the backdrop", Keiko Usami's 1983 LP "Manhattan Groove - Keiko Usami in New York" promises to transport the listener to fashionable 80s Manhattan living—think nightlife, staying at a high-rise apartment, and finding love in the city. The lush and smooth instrumental arrangements, coupled with Keiko Usami's voice seemingly becoming part of the soundscape, helped give it a sophisticated image album-like atmosphere. Veteran kayokyoku singer/producer Ichiro Araki lead the production alongside composition and arrangements by the prominent New Music folks of the era—think Keiko Maruyama, Jun Sato, Chito Kawachi and the likes. Notably, the first track "Morning Coffee in Bed", a Keiko Maruyama composition, would also appear in voice actress Mami Koyama's album that same year.
