Our new mission is to intercept Soviet naval task group with cruise missile launching ships, and eliminate them. Thumbnail: Krivak that hit us goes kaboom ----- 02:19 Surface contact intercepted We bumped into the red surface contact almost right over the other SOSUS line. We quickly ID'ed this as a 3-ship group: Kashin, Krivak, and Udaloy. Kashin is a DDG, thus worth destroying. So we launched 2 torpedoes... Only to have a torpedo dropped close enough to hit us. Fortunately, our DAMCON is on point, and the ship held together and flooding is under control. We are going shallow to pump out the water. Fortunately, we did not lose any of the wires, and soon Krivak and Kashin were sunk. We launched a torpedo at the Udaloy, but she sped away to the north, and we used that opportunity to disengage... Then we found out that's NOT our target. 11:46 Let's try that again We bumped into another red surface contact. This one is a 3-ship as well, a Krivak, a Sovremenny, and a Kresta II. We stayed at long range, beyond 20 km, and doglegged 2 torpedoes going after the Kresta and Sovremenny. Kresta was hit and sunk. However, the wire on tube 4 was cut, leaving the torpedo on its own to hit the target. We also started to flood again and had to go shallow, while we launched another torpedo. We noticed sonobuoys to our south; it seemed a Soviet maritime patrol plane had joined the party. Eventually the Mk48 caught and sank the Sovremenny. As the Krivak accelerated to top speed and ran for it, we deemed this was a great time to disengage... after we pumped out the flooded compartment, which we did. 18:07 Going Home We got the order to go home for repairs, and we had to dodge around several red subsurface contacts. We spent 56 hours in port, but now we're out again, 4 MOSS, 19 torpedoes. NEW PRIORITY MISSION: Stop PACT at-sea replenishment ship(s) probably around Blue 044. Friendly patrol planes out of Norway did spot a replenish convoy of some sort wandering west of SOSUS line. We ended up chasing it westward before catching in in the middle of Norwegian sea. 20:11 Convoy Interdiction We found a LOT of contacts and we classified them all... Krivak, Poti, Grisha, Kotlin, Kashin, Chilikin, Andizhan, and a humpback whale. Of which, the Chilikin and Andizhan are the priority targets. We doglegged 2 torpedoes by 6 km and sent them into the convoy. Both Chilikin and Andizhan were sunk. Grisha was only pulling 10 kts. Kotlin and Kashin were speeding away at 20 kts. Poti and Krivak are too far to be of threat, so our third torpedo sent Grisha to the bottom. And we disengaged. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! NEW PRIORITY MISSION: Oscar or Charlie class SSG escorted by SSNs will attempt to break through Denmark Strait. Destroy them via Green 312. As for how I fare in that...
