Pre-spawn crappie are starting to stack up, and today we’re targeting brush piles on a Kansas lake from my Native Titan kayak! With Livescope dialed in and jigs tied on, it was time to break down how these fish are setting up in late winter and how to trigger bites before the spawn. February 28, 2026 — water temps are creeping up and these Kansas crappie are grouping tight to deep brush. I’m using forward-facing sonar to locate fish in the cover, positioning the kayak precisely, and presenting jigs to suspended crappie that are staging just outside the thickest limbs. Fishing from my Native Titan kayak gives me the control and stealth I need to stay on these brush piles without spooking fish. Late February can be one of the BEST times to pattern crappie before they push shallow — and these Kansas fish did not disappoint.
