Amtrak employees at Ivy City Maintenance Facility unpack and install new features on board Amfleet I equipment, part of an extensive overhaul of train interiors on more than a dozen popular services operating in the Northeast and Midwest. Improvements include brand new seat cushions, carpeting, LED lighting, flooring, upgraded wainscoting and bulkheads, new curtains in Business Class and redesigned galleys in the Café Cars. The refresh program is aimed at introducing a more modern, more comfortable experience for customers. In September 2017, Amtrak coach cars began to undergo the series of major improvements in both Business Class and Coach Class cars. The total investment is valued at more than $16 million.
