Hohenwerfen Castle at Werfen. Well known for being the movie location for Schloss Adler in the film "Where Eagles Dare". Built in the 11th Century it was extended in the 12th and 16th Centuries. Seriously damaged by fire in 1931 it was rebuilt. After WWII it was used as a Training Centre for the Austrian Gendamerie and now a Visitors Attraction with Falconery demonstrations. Take the Railway to the Castle but enjoy a scenic 10 minute walk back down to the car park. Schladming Dachstein Summer Card holders receive a discount on the entrance fee. The entrance fee itself is very reasonable and includes a guided tour with audio description in many languages, the falconry display and at certain times such as peak season and weekends, historical re enactments. An excellent day out for all the family. The Falconry Display starts at 08:30 on the video. The Cable car seen in "Where Eagles Dare" does and did not exist at Werfen.
