In this video, I explore Stanley Kubrick’s and Arthur C. Clarke’s visionary masterpiece, 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), and its profound insights into the future of intelligence. Clarke imagined satellites orbiting Earth long before they became a reality, and through HAL 9000, he predicted what we now call the AI alignment problem — the critical challenge of ensuring advanced AI systems share human goals and values. I reflect on how this story connects with our present moment, where conversational AI and machine intelligence are rapidly evolving. Clarke’s vision resonates even more deeply today, especially when seen alongside Friedrich Nietzsche’s idea of humanity as a “bridge” to something greater.
