BTS receives 2020 IFPI Global Recording Artist of the Year Award

(5 Mar 2021) BTS RECEIVES 2020 IFPI GLOBAL RECORDING ARTIST OF THE YEAR AWARD K-pop's BTS received the 2020 IFPI Global Recording Artist of the Year Award, becoming the first South Korean and Asian act to take the title. The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry announced the top 10 best-selling artists of the year globally on Thursday (4 MARCH 2021). The award is calculated according to "an artist's or group's worldwide performance across digital and physical music formats during the year" according to the IFPI website. Taylor Swift and Drake took second and third place this year. Swift was the winner in 2019 and Drake took the first spot in 2018. It's the first win for BTS after they came second in 2018's IFPI Global Artist Chart. BTS is the first winner to perform primarily in a language other than English. BTS, consisting of RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V and Jung Kook, is the biggest boyband in the world with over 33.1 million followers on Twitter.
