The Iran–U.S. war has expanded dramatically into open waters, with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claiming it struck an American destroyer in the Indian Ocean during what it calls a “powerful strike.” According to the IRGC, “Ghadr-380” medium-range ballistic missiles and “Talaieh” strategic cruise missiles hit a U.S. warship while it was refueling from an American tanker more than 600 kilometers from Iran’s borders, triggering what Tehran described as “widespread fires” onboard both vessels. Meanwhile, the IRGC declared the Strait of Hormuz a “war zone,” claiming more than 10 oil tankers were hit after ignoring Iranian warnings.
