Inside of the Second World War, there were hundreds of concentration camps opened up across occupied German lands. One of those which isn't so well known is Ohrdruf Concentration Camp, which was a sub camp of Buchenwald. It was only in operation around a year towards the end of World War 2, but it was very deadly and there were many different execution methods used to exterminate the prison population there. But the SS guards initially wanted to exterminate the people inside of Ohrdruf using hard and forced labour, and inside thousands of prisoners never made it out. Ohrdruf's prisoners were forced to work on railway projects and also dig underground tunnels which it's believed would have been a secret headquarters for the Nazis. Ohrdruf was the first concentration camp liberated by the American Army, and they were disgusted by what they saw. Death was around every corner, and they found many of the former prisoners who had been executed and simply left.
