In the “deepest” swimming pool in the world, in Montegrotto Terme (PD, Italy), the underwater installation on LEONARDO DA VINCI. 500 YEARS OF GENIUS is the “deepest” tribute to the greatest genius of all time. The 500 years since the death of Leonardo Da Vinci – born in Anchiano, near Vinci (Florence), on April 15, 1452 and died in Amboise, France, on May 2, 1519 – and the 5 years of Y-40® The Deep Joy – opened on June 5, 2014 – are celebrated in 2019 in a (free) path among the reproductions of his works, in and out of the water. While Leonardo da Vinci dictated the proportions of bodily perfection with his studies related to man and animals in motion, Y-40® The Deep Joy is in the Guinness World Records thanks to its record depth for a swimming pool: -42.15 metres. LEONARDO'S CURRICULUM IS MANIFOLD: architect, painter, sculptor, draftsman, treatise artist, set designer, anatomist, botanist, musician, engineer and designer, just to mention his most famous titles. THE ACTIVITIES OF THE RECORD POOL ARE EQUALLY MANIFOLD: scuba diving, apnea, theatre of great events, photographic set and film studio, art atelier with works exhibited at the Venice Biennale 2019, underwater scientific research laboratory, from human physiology to the absence of gravity, and study centre on the development of advanced technologies for water or space. The exhibition in Y-40® starts at the entrance, with the opening of the THREE-METRE BOOKS IN THE POOL HALL, in which are shown studies, drawings, famous phrases and videos about water, its movements, the different forms it takes in nature and the tools to govern or discover it, such as submarines or underwater wetsuits, whose prototype designed by Leonardo is reproduced here life-size by CRESSI. The UNDERWATER ITINERARY, perfectly visible even to those who prefer not to dive into the water, includes BLOW-UPS OF WORKS OF ART, such as his famous Self-portrait, the Mona Lisa, the Lady with the Ermine and Ginevra de’ Benci, reproductions of the drawings of the most innovative machines with which to attempt to take flight, for example, but also sketches of human and animal anatomical studies drawn by Leonardo. Divers can challenge the proportions of the VITRUVIAN MAN, by placing themselves inside the circle and square of the famous drawing, recreated in wood by the master Bruno Gobbato, author also of the copy, on a small scale, of his parachute, with which they can try to climb thanks to the thrust of the air delivered by the cylinder itself or gently descend into the different platforms of the pool, until they explore the cylinder that reaches maximum depth. The latter is marked by the 12 PANELS DEPICTING LEONARDO'S ANATOMICAL DRAWINGS, up to the famous baby on his lap, positioned at -39 metres, like the weeks of gestation. Upon exiting the water, the GEODESIC DOME inspired by Leonardo's icosahedron welcomes divers and visitors, RECONSTRUCTED IN THE BAR of Y-40®, where they can enjoy a cocktail inspired by the recipe for aquarosa written by the artist-scientist on the Codex Atlanticus kept in Milan. "On this important anniversary we could not avoid celebrating the Italian genius in our own way – explains architect EMANUELE BOARETTO, CREATOR AND DESIGNER OF Y-40® The Deep Joy –. The exhibition is intended for visitors to Y-40®, school children and tourists at Terme Euganee. The works in water are also visible from the transparent tunnel that crosses the pool at -5 meters and others are exhibited in the pool bar".
