I decided to do this transition for multiple reasons; the number one being because I was not able to travel as much as I needed/wanted to on Methadone. I was also, and still am not in a place in my life where I was ready to be off all opiates / opiate blockers. I do plan on getting off Suboxone, hopefully within the next year. Honestly, this transition was not as hard as I thought it was going to be- but I am aware that I used an un-conventional method to transition. That being said, I am currently writing this after being on Suboxone for 3 months now and am still suffering from post acute withdrawal symptoms. The first 2 months were really bad, I had excruciating pain in my joints, back and neck (mainly because I already suffer from chronic pain in those areas) which seemed to be heightened. I also had trouble sleeping, extreme depression, anxiety, very low energy, feeling tired all the time and just not like myself. This past month, month number 3, things are starting to get better. I have to remind myself that I have been on Opiates since I was 16 years old, 10 years, and that I have to get comfortable with the feeling of my body and brain functioning without opiates. Just know that Addiction is something you can overcome, DO NOT GIVE UP! I had tried a lot of things to get clean before getting on Methadone; over a dozen rehabs, AA, NA and even went and did Ibogaine. I had tried Methadone in the past and looking back, I was not ready to get clean. I am extremely thankful that Methadone worked for me this time, and I still have moments where I cannot believe how incredible my life is today compared to the way I used to live my life. Please know you can reach out to me directly if you ever feel like you need someone to talk to! And if you are currently in addiction and are seeking help, please look up Crisis Centers in your area - your closest Hospital should have all this information for you as well. DO NOT GIVE UP! I PROMISE YOU LIFE IS WORTH LIVING! Thank you all for all the support and love! EDITED BY @lauracorinn
