Welcome to ForB's English lesson video! This time Kevin is going to explain how to pronounce "WORLD." For other videos, please check out ForB YouTube Channel. ⇒ / forbenglish ★Transcript Hello, everyone. Welcome to ForB's English lesson video. I'm Kevin, and today we're going to practice pronunciation. And for today's pronunciation video we're going to work on the word, "world, world." Now, this is a very tricky word for many people. It can be tough to pronounce. So we're going to take it very slowly. So, "world" of course, is spelled w-o-r-l-d." It is one syllable, one sound. Just like "big, tall, short." So it's one sound "world." But, as I said a lot of students can have trouble with it. Let's start with the beginning sound. We're going to start with the "w" sound. For the "w" sound, our mouth is a little bit open and our lips will push out a little bit. "w, w." Tongue is back in your mouth not touching anything and very relaxed mouth. "w, w." Give it a try. Please repeat after me. "w, w, w." OK. Very good. Now, let's move to the vowel sound in the middle but let's be very careful. Even though the spelling is "OR," we don't pronounce it "or" like "orange". We don't want that pronunciation. Instead, it sounds a little bit more of an "ER" sound. "er, er." Notice for that sound, my mouth very still, my lips don't move. A little bit open. "er, er." Again, tongue is back not moving. "er, er." Repeat after me. "er, er, er." OK. Good. Let's combine those first two sounds. The "w" and "er." "wer, wer." So, mouth is open, lips push out. "wer, wer." Repeat after me. "wer, wer, wer." OK. Good. You'll notice that sound is almost identical of the simple past of "be." "They were at the store." That "were" almost same sound. Alright, now let's move to the ending sound. The "LD" sound. This is the really tricky part for many students. So, we need to start with the "L" sound. Remember for "L" and the "ul" sound. Tongue will start in the middle of our mouth, then push up to right behind our front teeth, so the top of our mouth behind our front teeth. "ul, ul, ul." Mouth is a little bit open, tongue moves up. "ul, ul." Repeat after me. "ul, ul, ul." OK. Good. Next for the "D" sound, almost reverse. Tongue will start that same position, top of our mouth behind our front teeth and then drop down. "d, d, d." Tongue up. "d, d." Repeat after me. "d, d." Let's be careful. No extra sound after the "D" sound. Not "doe" or "da." "d, d." Very short sound. OK. So, let's combine the "L" and "D" sounds. "L" tongue moves up. "D" tongue drops. "ld, ld, ld." Repeat after me. "ld, ld, ld." OK. You got it? It's a little tricky but keep practicing. Now, let's move these two sounds together. "wor-ld, wor-ld, wor-ld, world, world, world." OK. Repeat after me. "world, world, world." OK. Got it? Let's try three times very fast. "world, world, world." OK. Very good. This is one of the tricky words in English. So, please don't worry if you have any trouble. Just keep practicing and I'm sure you can get it with some time.
