Sand Run is a tributary of Babb Creek, which flows southwest into Pine Creek. Sand Run is in Tioga State Forest, with its headwaters north of Arnot, PA and northwest of Blossburg, PA. A few hundred yards above its confluence with Babb Creek is Sand Run Falls, a ~25 ft waterfall that drops into a fractured-rock chasm. The Mid State Trail crosses Sand Run above the falls, and some ropes help hikers down to a great campsite just below the falls. Sand Run Falls is my favorite PA waterfall! When I first visited it in August of 2012, I hadn't realized that PA was home to hundreds of spectacular waterfalls. It was the first "wow" waterfall I ever saw in PA. I revisited during high water in early 2017, then several more times since then. In October of 2022 I hiked upstream above the main falls to discover rocky cliffs, many cascades, a few small waterfalls, and lots of bedrock slides. It's beautiful, and I look forward to returning every year!
