Taken on 10/27/25. Video footage of CT Transit 2025 New Flyer XDE40 2524 operating on the 96E variant between Downtown Hartford and Windsor Locks Railroad station, via US-5. There are two round trips each weekday (one in the AM rush, the other in the PM) provided on this route. The main service operates between Downtown Hartford & South Windsor on weekdays and Saturdays. The 96E started service on August 22, 2021 as part of the CT Transit's Hartford Area express restructuring. Service on US-5 used to be provided by a reverse peak variant of the former 905E route. The restructuring of the 905 route brought about the creation of this variant and the 24. In the near future, the 96E will no longer turn down Main Street / CT-159, nor will serve the Windsor Locks Park & Ride. This is because the current Windsor Locks station will be moved by the location of the original station close to the Downtown area. The current location just south of I-91 is very isolated and pedestrian unfriendly. It was initially touted to open in September 2025, only for it to arrive and not happen, with absolutely no updates from CTDOT or elected officials. When that happens all buses will stop at the new station, turning north on Main Street after crossing the Connecticut River instead.
