I'm continuing my visit to the ancient temples of Prambanan here in Yogyakarta Indonesia. Unfortunately, the rain caught me! I did not bring an umbrella (shouldve brought one). Its funny because when I was on the train it seemed quite sunny. When I got to the temple, it was starting to get cloudy. I really did not expect it to rain. Regardless, I waited inside one of the temples (like many others) for the rain to ease up a bit. The ancient ruins, temples, are incredible. The architecture completely fascinating. There are many stories carved into the temples. One of the carvings that was interesting was seeing monkeys and humans together, as if conversing. The monkeys are shown in a group making an offering to the humans (people). I read a bit more about this and its included in the Ramayana. The panel depicts tied an alliance (or teaming) between Rama and the monkey kingdom led by Hanuman, Sugriva, and their companions. The monkeys are shown as intelligent, devoted beings making offerings. In this scenario, the monkeys are divine helpers. I have enjoyed my visit to Prambanan and hope you can make it out here! Dont forget your umbrella. Also, bring some non slippery shoes.
