Welcome to the Extension Task! 🚀 In this video, Mr. Glenn introduces one of the most powerful tools in coding: Variables. We are moving beyond simple numbers and creating a system to control the speed of our characters (and eventually, our enemies!). 📝 KEY CONCEPTS: What is a Variable? Think of it as a container that stores information (like a number) that can change while the game is running. Naming Conventions: Why we Capitalize our variables (e.g., CharSpeed or EnemySpeed) to make our code readable. Implementation: How to replace the static "100" in your movement block with your new variable bubble. 🧠 WHY DO THIS? If you use a variable for speed, you can change the game difficulty later! Imagine coding this rule: "If Score - 10, set EnemySpeed to 150." You can't do that without variables! 👉 YOUR CHALLENGE: Create a Speed variable, set it to 10, and see how slow your character moves. Then, try to find the perfect speed for your game. #Coding #Variables #MakeCodeArcade #ComputerScience Option 2: The "Quick & Technical" Style (Direct & Efficient) Best for students who just want the steps to finish the assignment. Video Title: MakeCode Quick Tip: How to Use Variables for Speed 🔢 Description: This is the Part 1 Extension for the Digital Inspection Bureau project. We are replacing the default speed settings with custom Variables. 🛠️ STEP-BY-STEP: Create: Go to the "Variables" tab and click "Make a Variable." Name: Call it Speed (Capitalize the first letter!). Set: Drag set Speed to 0 into your On Start block. Change the value to 100. Replace: Drag the round Speed bubble into the move my sprite with buttons block (replacing the number 100). 💡 EXPERIMENT: Try changing the value in the "Set" block to 10. Notice the difference? 🚀 PRO TIP: You can create a second variable called EnemySpeed to control bad guys separately. This is how you make levels get harder as you play!
