It is knot #787 in the Ashley Book of Knots (AboK). It is also known as the sailor’s knife lanyard knot, the marlin spike lanyard knot, the bosun’s whistle knot and the friendship knot. The knot is tied by joining two ends of a single cord with a carrick bend to form a loop in the middle. The ends are then wrapped around the outside of the loop and up through the center of the knot. Use/Application It is often used as an ornamental part of a knife or tool lanyard. It can also be used to make paracord jewelery, as a decorative part of a paracord survival bracelet or key fob or zipper pull. It is often used as a paracord bracelet end knot. If you pull the slack out and completely close the loop you can form a button knot (the chinese button knot), which can be used as a functional button.
