This Overwatch Mei guide will walk you through all of her abilities from beginner to advanced including her wall, ice block, primary and secondary fire, and her Blizzard ultimate. Her ability to AoE freeze is incredible and this guide will teach you how to carry and climb SR into a high rank! 1. How to control the battlefield A lot of Mei’s strength comes from her ult so naturally it’s important to charge it as fast as possible. She has great poke damage with her ranged icicles so be looking to fire off as many of these toward the enemy team as possible during the early fight. Now an important distinction here is that your goal is to charge your ult, NOT get kills. Wanting kills at this point usually results in exposing yourself for too long and increases your chance of being picked off. 2. Dominate the front line Mei can flank every now and again but her true strength lies with and against tanks. Your Reinhardt is your best friend and you’ll be his if you stay by his side. Likewise, the enemy Reinhardt will want to report you by the end of the match if you stay in his face the whole game. Every time the enemy Reinhardt goes to swing his hammer, make sure he’s met with your freeze gun so he can’t swing for too long. Once you see the enemy Reinhardt getting low or you feel like you have the upper hand in a team fight, walk straight into the enemy Reinhardt, past his shield, and try to confirm the freeze on him. 3. Split the enemy team Remember when I said her wall is the best ability in the game? When I first started playing Overwatch I didn’t see how much value it truly had. Sure it can provide some cover for a second and make you a bit harder to kill, but where is the true strength in it? Its real value comes from the ability to isolate members of the enemy team. So that one simple little thing I mentioned earlier is very easy to pull off. When you’re in any area that has a small choke, use your wall to cut off the choke as soon as the first member of the enemy team tries to come through it. 4. Keep your head high With how much utility Mei has, it’s honestly a little ridiculous that her alternate fire is so strong, especially with head shots. Head shots do double damage in Overwatch, so they have double the value. This is especially true for Mei because a head shot for her does 150 damage. You can effectively two shot all squishies in the game with a head shot and a body shot, and a lot of the time your target has already a bit of random damage so you might even take them out with a single head shot. 5. 200 IQ Ice Blocks Ice block primarily serves as a defensive ability, and the healing received from it is great. But anyone who’s been playing Overwatch for a while knows how long Mei’s Ice Block lasts for, and when they have this knowledge you can be countered much easier. You can end Ice Block at any time so a lot of the time it’s better to end it early to throw off the enemy team. If you’re one of the last players alive on your team and the fight is a loss, don’t stay in Ice Block as long as possible just to stall. Just die in order to reset and get with the rest of your team.
