The song title hit me earlier today. I never did this one, I thought. Why? It was a big hit in its day too. But when was "it's day." I forgot and had to find out. This, it turns out, is another 50's golden oldie, a West Coast blues number by singer/pianist Jimmy McCracklin. Almost forgotten, but not quite, I remembered it immediately. But not for McCracklin's original. What I was remembering was a cover by The Inmates I used to play in late 1979/early 1980 when I was a nightclub DJ. I still have the 45 single. An unusual dance number, regardless, I knew immediately some of the most classic walks in cinema and entertainment history were also perfect for this hit. Jayne Mansfield struts and swivels, Bettie Page rocks and can cans, and Marilyn Monroe sways seductively on to the scene then dances up a storm. Perfect walks for "The Walk," released in late December 1957, and which reached #5 on the Billboard R&B chart and #7 on the Billboard Pop chart on March 15, 1958.
