The Renault R17 concept brings a fresh take on a 1970s classic. Equipped with a 270-horsepower electric motor and carbon fiber panels, it’s a modern reinterpretation. Sadly, Renault has no intention of bringing it to production. Reimagining old car designs with a modern flair isn't exactly a new idea. Car manufacturers often tap into nostalgia, giving us beautifully redesigned concepts that make us wish they were real. The Renault R17 is one such example. Unveiled today, it combines the spirit of a beloved icon with an electric drivetrain, all wrapped up in a striking design that pays homage to the 1970s style. Renault teamed up with French designer Ora Ïto to create the vehicle, which boasts a carbon fiber body and impeccable proportions. It draws inspiration from the Renault 17, a hatchback sold between 1971 and 1979. Sleek LED headlights blend seamlessly into the front, while a clean, full-width LED taillight complements the car's minimalist lines. The R17’s wider fenders enhance its stance, giving it a sportier edge compared to the original Renault 17, and small louvers add a touch of style. Inside, Ora Ïto opted for 1970s-inspired materials to create a modern cabin where screens are discreetly incorporated into the design. Four rectangular displays are set behind the boxy steering wheel, and a central screen, positioned horizontally below the dashboard, mimics the look of a retro radio. Despite its 270-horsepower electric motor and a range of 249 miles per charge, Renault doesn’t plan to mass-produce this concept. It will remain a one-of-a-kind model, set to be displayed at several events, including the 2024 Paris Motor Show in October. Do you like it?
