We spent an incredible few days at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park in Key Largo, Florida - America's FIRST underwater state park! Camping with our friends @sunsetsancampfires, we explored coral reefs, hiked beautiful trails, paddle boarded pristine waters, and even served our community by delivering baked goods to local firefighters. 🏝️ JOHN PENNEKAMP CORAL REEF STATE PARK HIGHLIGHTS: *CAMPGROUND:* Camped right in the park with our friends George & Paula from @sunsetsancampfires! The campground is surrounded by tropical hammocks and just steps from the water. Full-facility campsites make this an incredible home base for exploring the Keys. *SNORKELING THE SPANISH SHIPWRECK:* Snorkeled at Cannon Beach where you can see artifacts from an early Spanish shipwreck just 100 feet offshore! Swimming among centuries-old cannons, anchors, and artifacts in crystal-clear water was surreal. The park is famous for its coral reefs - this is the first underwater park in the United States! *SHORT HIKES ON PROPERTY:* Explored the park's beautiful short trails through tropical hammocks. The Wild Tamarind Trail and Mangrove Trail offer easy walks through unique Florida ecosystems - perfect for all ages and fitness levels. *PADDLE BOARDING:* Paddled through the calm waters around the park - absolutely peaceful! The clear waters and mangrove-lined shores made for perfect paddle boarding conditions. *SMALL AQUARIUM:* Visited the park's 30,000-gallon saltwater aquarium in the Visitor Center! Up-close views of tropical fish, sea creatures, and reef inhabitants. Great for learning about the marine life you'll see while snorkeling. *LIZARDS EVERYWHERE:* The park is FULL of lizards! From tiny geckos to large iguanas, these little guys were everywhere we looked. Nature at its best! 🍪 *COMMUNITY SERVICE:* We baked goodies and delivered them to the local firefighters as a thank you for their service to the community.
