Avalurpett - Thiruvanamalai - Flag Hoisting Nagore Festival - Nagore Dargah Kalifa The sacred Flag Hoisting ceremony held at Avalurpet, near Thiruvannamalai Town, marked the commencement of the revered Nagore Festival, a spiritual tradition deeply rooted in devotion, unity, and centuries-old Sufi heritage. The event witnessed the participation of devotees and followers who gathered to seek blessings and spiritual guidance. The ceremony was graced by Dr. Kalifa Masthan Sahib Qadri, the Nagore Dargah Kalifa, who serves as the Hereditary Kalifa, Sajjada Nasheen, Gaddi Nasheen, Spiritual Head, Leading Priest, and Hereditary First Trustee of Nagore Dargah Shariff. This position is a sacred hereditary office passed down through generations, symbolizing spiritual authority, religious leadership, and custodianship of the Dargah’s traditions. The Nagore Festival is intrinsically connected to Nagore Dargah Shariff, one of the most revered Sufi shrines in South India, dedicated to Hazrat Shahul Hameed Badusha Nayagam (Rahmatullahi Alaih), a great Sufi saint known for his message of divine love, equality, and universal brotherhood. For centuries, the Dargah has stood as a beacon of harmony, attracting devotees from diverse faiths who come seeking peace, healing, and spiritual fulfillment. Nagore Dargah Shariff is historically administered by eight hereditary trustees, traditionally known as Parambarai Nattamaiyargal, among whom the Hereditary Kalifa holds the foremost position as the First Trustee. Beyond administrative responsibility, the Kalifa’s role is primarily spiritual, guiding rituals, prayers, festivals, and maintaining the sanctity of the Dargah in accordance with long-established traditions. The Flag Hoisting at Avalurpet symbolized the spiritual connection between local devotees and the timeless legacy of Nagore Dargah, reaffirming faith, devotion, and reverence for the saint whose teachings continue to inspire generations. Such events reflect the living heritage of Sufism and the enduring spiritual bond shared by the followers of Nagore Dargah across regions.
