The Wheel of the Year Tarot is a Lo Scarabeo deck so it goes without saying that the stock is excellent, packaging is good and the cards make sense. The imagery has a European feel and the outfits people are wearing have a bit of an 1800's kind of feel to me, but it is still in sync with the kinds of scenes that Pamela Colman Smith created in the Smith Waite or Rider Waite deck as it used to be known. I love the whole concept of honouring the wheel of the year which goes something like this; Celtic New Year or Samhain - April 30–May 1 - A time to honour our ancestors. A great time for divination, and the seeking of wisdom from spirit due to the thinning of the veil. Also known as Halloween. Winter Solstice or Yule - June 20–23 - All about the Longest night; rebirth of light, renewal, rest; log burning and wassailing for sun's return. Imbolc - August 1–2 - The first stirrings of spring; purification, lactation in animals, Brigid fire festival for inspiration and healing. Spring Equinox or Ostara - September 20–23 - There is a balance of day/night; a time of thanksgiving for fertility, the time to begin planting, and honouring new growth. Eggs and seeds are symbols for ritual work. Beltane- October 31–November 1 - A time where fertility is at a peak. Traditionally maypole dances, sacred unions and just generally celebrating love and the earth's bounty. Summer Solstice or Litha - December 20–23 - The longest day and shortest night. The sun's power is at it's peak. A time of abundance, and celebration. A time when traditionally protection rituals were done. Lughnasadh - February 1–2 - The grain harvest; games, bread baking, honouring Lugh for skills and first fruits. Autumn Equinox or Mabon - March 20–23 - Thanks for the harvest, balance of light and dark on all levels. This is the second harvest; and there is a focus on balance, gratitude, and preparation for winter through reflection and sharing. Wine is set down and the apples are stored in the cellars. If you love the wheel of the year, you may like to take a look at the half day retreats that are happening in 2026 and 2027 as these are following the celtic wheel of the year.
