To celebrate 50 years of service, the Black River & Western Railroad named this Sunday "Triple Header Day" and ran two special trains from Flemington to Ringoes and back. These trains, which departed Flemington at 11AM and 1PM, were running with 2-8-0 60, SW1200 1202, and SW1 400 all together. 400 may look like a new face, but it is in fact Lehigh Valley 112 repainted and renumbered in commemoration of the Black River & Western's 50th anniversary. Passengers for either train were given commemorative tickets, but those who rode the 1PM train were also treated to photo run-bys at Johanna Farms Road and the corn maze, as well as special posters that were given out during the stop at Ringoes. I was able to see the 1PM train at several locations during its trip. We first see the 11AM train pulling into Flemington and finishing up its run. After pulling in, 2-8-0 60, SW1200 1202, and SW1 400 are uncoupled from the train one by one. 60 and 1202 cross Church Street to make room for 400 to pull past the switch and take the passing siding to run around the train. Once 400 does so, 1202 and 60 take their turns on the passing siding. This was done so that 60 would be leading the train in both directions. After leaving Flemington, I made a stop at the Johanna Farms Road crossing, where the train would be making its first photo run-by. Passengers were let off next to one of the nearby car dealers lots and the train backed up in order to have room to pick up speed for the run-by. Once that was done and the passengers were let back on, the train continued on its way. After seeing 60, 1202, and 400 pull the train across Copper Hill Road, I made my next stop at Toad Lane. I found out that the private crossing in the distance would be the site for several run-bys. After they were done, I was able to see the train crossing Toad Lane. My dad and I decided to take the time that the train would be stopped in Ringoes to head back into Flemington and stop at a Wawa to get some food. From there, we went back to Johanna Farms Road so I could see the train one more time. It was a long wait, not helped by the presence of a swarm of gnats, but eventually the train appeared in the distance and slowly rolled past on its way back.
