These are videos from my master thesis in architecture: Form From Behaviour (2018). The aim was to explore how generative processes could be used in a an architectural design process. The project was made in Java with Processing. 0:00 Regular swarm behaviour in a 3d space. The script is based upon boids and the agents are influenced by three factors: separation, alignment and cohesion. 0:38 Control and volatility. In this simulation the agents attraction to each other (cohesion) is increased over time. As time goes by the swarm as a whole exhibit more erratic behaviour. The increasing cohesion is reflected in the color which gets warmer over time. 1:14 Movement analysis. From now on the swarms are not attracted to each other but instead to the trails of other agents. This phenomenon is called stigmergy and is common among social insects such as ants. Each agent here represents city dwelling people. The red dots are attractors of varying power that attracts the swarm, in a city planning context these could be landmarks/bus stops/shops etc.. 2:34 Structural stigmergy 3:50 Surface articulation 5:11 Particle creation
