HIGHWAY DRIVING ASSIST, or HDA, is available on select Kia models, some of which also include Lane Change Assist. When you’re driving and using Smart Cruise Control or Lane Following Assist, HIGHWAY DRIVING ASSIST automatically helps control the vehicle’s steering, acceleration, and deceleration functions to help keep you centered in the lane and traveling at a safe distance from the car ahead. It’s also designed to help keep you driving at the proper speed limit, setting your pace based on GPS and highway data. To activate HDA, go to the SETUP menu on the infotainment system screen and press VEHICLE… You’ll see DRIVER ASSISTANCE and VEHICLE SETTINGS… Select DRIVING CONVENIENCE… Then select HIGHWAY DRIVING ASSIST. Which enables HIGHWAY LANE CHANGE ASSIST. Selecting HIGHWAY AUTO SPEED CHANGE adjusts the vehicle speed based on navigation data. Operating conditions for HDA to remain active are: The vehicle must be traveling slower than 95 miles per hour and on limited access state, interstate, or federal highways. Smart Cruise Control and Lane Following Assist must be on and operating. A GREEN HDA icon will be illuminated on the instrument cluster when HDA is active. When the green light blinks, it means HIGHWAY LANE CHANGE ASSIST is operating… The indicator will be GREY when in standby state… And it will BLINK WHITE if the accelerator is depressed. HIGHWAY DRIVING ASSIST not only helps keep the vehicle centered in its lane, but it also enters the AUTOMATIC SPEED SETTING MODE, allowing the vehicle to maintain the posted highway speed limit. HIGHWAY LANE CHANGE ASSIST functions at speeds above 50 miles per hour when you move the turn signal lever up or down. Once you press the turn signal, the vehicle uses multiple sensors to monitor your surroundings. Then, the system provides assistance to the steering wheel while changing lanes. Also, if the steering wheel detects that the driver is not grasping the wheel, HDA will be cancelled and a “HANDS OFF” warning will appear on the instrument cluster along with an audible warning. Remember, HDA is not a substitute for safe driving practices – it’s the responsibility of the driver to always follow posted speed limits, be aware of the surroundings and drive safely.
