My name is Leah Day and in this quilting video workshop we're going to learn all the steps to creating a beautiful wholecloth quilt. We're going to start by preparing our fabric so it's easy to mark the wholecloth design. Next we'll learn all the steps to trapunto and how to quilt three dense filler designs. Finally we'll learn how to apply all of those dense filler designs to the surface of the quilt, quilting in the background and create a dramatic difference between the flat background areas and the puffy trapunto motifs. We're going to learn all of the steps to finishing this quilt including soaking the quilt, blocking, and binding. You may be wondering if a wholecloth quilt is beyond your skill level. I created my first wholecloth back when I was just a beginning quilter and I made a lot of mistakes. I've shared that wholecloth quilt within this workshop so that way you won't have to make the same mistakes I did. I believe a wholecloth quilt is a great beginner project. It's going to teach you loads about fabric preparation, marking designs, trapunto, and dense filler quilting. Dense filler quilting will actually really build your skill for free motion quilting because you get so many more repetitions of the design in a smaller amount of fabric you actually quilt. So creating a wholecloth will really ramp up your skill level in a small amount of time and with a small amount of fabric. So what are you waiting for?
